HC Deb 14 January 1985 vol 71 c13W
Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many police, pickets and others have been injured since 1 December during the coal mining dispute; and what is the cumulative figure since the dispute began.

Mr. Giles Shaw

In the period from 1 December to 10 January inclusive, 58 police officers were injured in incidents connected with the miners' dispute. The total number of police officers injured in the period from 13 March to 10 January inclusive was 1,305. It is not possible to say how many members of the public have been injured because not all their injuries are necessarily reported to the police.

Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many people have been arrested on picket lines since 1 December; and if he will list their occupations as notified to the police.

Mr. Giles Shaw

The information available centrally is as follows:

Occupations given by persons arrested between 5 December and 8 January inclusive:
Occupation Number
Miners 290
Student 1
Non-manual workers 2
