HC Deb 09 January 1985 vol 70 cc509-10W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what action has been taken by his Department during the last five years in respect of National Health Service hospitals considered by the Public Accounts Committee as being constructionally suspect; and if he will specify the hospitals concerned.

Mr. John Patten

During the past five years the PAC has considered structural defects at the following hospitals:

  • The Hospital for Sick Children: Great Ormond Street
  • Guys
  • Monyhull
  • Goscote
  • Leighton
  • Basingstoke
  • Princess Margaret: Swindon
  • Southend

In all these cases the Department has approved proposals for remedial work by the regional or special health authorities concerned. It has also agreed their undertaking legal proceedings to recover the costs of this work in appropriate cases.
