§ Mr. Gouldasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what has been the failure rate for firms which have received assistance under the loan guarantee scheme and the business expansion scheme.
§ Mr. Trippier[pursuant to his reply,21 December 1984, c. 406]: Experience with the earliest loan guarantee scheme loans suggests that 40 per cent. of firms benefiting from the scheme could fail. However, it is hoped that there will be some improvement on later loans. No comparable figures are available for failures amongst companies receiving business expansion scheme investment.
