§ Mr. BrookeUnder the powers conferred by section 20 of the Education Act 1980 my right hon. Friend supports scholarships through the national engineering scholarships scheme. The cost of this to the Department in the current financial year will amount to a little under £175,000. This figure will rise in subsequent years to £450,000 as the number of new scholarships awarded reaches an approved maximum of 300 per annum. The administrative costs to the Department of the scheme will amount to around £100,000 a year.
