HC Deb 09 January 1985 vol 70 cc482-3W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) whether he will circulate in the Official Report a table showing for each quarter since 1 January 1973 the percentage increase in the money supply, domestic credit expansion, wholesale prices, retail prices, gross domestic product and the real money supply;

(2) whether he will publish in the Official Report a table showing for each quarter since the beginning of 1977 the percentage increase in the money supply and the percentage increase in retail prices two years later.

Mr. Ian Stewart

No. TheOfficial Report is not a statistical abstract. The hon. Member's attention has, on numerous occasions, been drawn to the publications in which such information as is available may be found.

Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will publish in the Official Report a table showing in index form the changes in the money supply, velocity of circulation, prices and output between 1979 and the latest available date, in each case; and whether these economic indices have performed as he expected at that time.

Mr. Ian Stewart

The information requested on past behaviour can be derived fromEconomic Trends, tables 8, 42 and 52. The assumptions for output and prices on which policy has been based, and the target ranges for monetary growth, have been set out in successive versions of the MTFS.
