HC Deb 09 January 1985 vol 70 cc493-4W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make additional funds available to enable centres for the rehabilitation of drug addicts which are presently threatened with closure to remain open.

Mr. John Patten

We are aware of only one centre for the rehabilitation of drug misusers which may be threatened with early closure. The voluntary organisation concerned has made an application for funds to the Department and we will let it know the outcome as soon as possible. More generally, my right hon. and learned Friend announced on 13 December 1984 that a further £3 million will be available centrally—in addition to the £7 million previously made available—to improve services for drug misusers. Such funding is of course only available for a limited period as we normally expect local projects, once established, to attract local funding.
