Mr. Fisher

asked the Minister for the Civil Service what information he has as to how many civil servants have left the Civil Service for jobs in the private sector in each of the last 10 years.

[pursuant to his reply, 25 February 1985, c. 55]: The numbers of voluntary resignations from the non-industrial Home Civil Service in the years 1975 to 1983 and for the first half of 1984 are given in the following table. It is not possible to break those numbers down according to reasons for leaving but it should be noted that they include those leaving for family reasons as well as alternative employment in either the private or public sectors.
