HC Deb 28 February 1985 vol 74 c259W
Mr. David Marshall

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if, pursuant to his answer to a question from the hon. Member for Aberdeen North, (Mr. Hughes), Official Report, 24 January, column 1120, he will provide the figures which lie behind his statement that road building will increase substantially in 1986 in real terms.

Mr. Lawson

The phrase "next year" in my statement refers to the next financial year 1985–86, rather than the calendar year 1986.

Provision for expenditure on new road construction in 1985–86 (excluding structural and other maintenance) is £619 millions, an increase of £34 millions (6 per cent.) over provision in 1984–85.
