HC Deb 28 February 1985 vol 74 c274W
Mr. Meadowcroft

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether any patient has received treatment under section 62 of the Mental Health Act 1983 with favourable irreversible physical or psychological consequences, or entailing significant psychological hazard; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Patten

There is no statutory requirement for action taken under section 62 of the Mental Health Act 1983 to be recorded or reported. The Mental Health Act Commission are, however, monitoring the implementation of the Act closely, particularly as regards matters relating to consent to treatment, and no such case has come to their notice or to ours.

If the hon. Member would care to let me have details of any specific matter which he believes may give cause for concern, I shall be glad to look into it.
