§ Sir George YoungIn 1984–85 the urban programme is funding some 300 projects promoted by local authorities which are intended to prevent crime, or alleviate its effects. The total value of these projects is approximately £6.3 million. Local authorities operate about 40 per cent. of these projects directly; the rest are run by voluntary organisations.
