asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what are the implications for the United Kingdom footwear industry of an extension of value added tax to children's footwear.

It is difficult to predict the possible effects of such an extension, but I have received representations from the footwear industry. These representations have been drawn to the attention of Treasury Ministers.
