HC Deb 27 February 1985 vol 74 c204W
Mr. Willie W. Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland which bodies were responsible for nominating the new members of the Glenrothes development corporation; and how many members of the new board reside in Glenrothes.

Mr. Allan Stewart

There is no right of nomination to new town development corporations but before appointing members the Secretary of State is required to consult local authorities concerned with the development of the town. In the case of Glenrothes he consults Fife regional council and Kirkcaldy district council. Members are not appointed in any representational capacity but by virtue of the personal contribution he considers they can make to the town. Three members of Glenrothes development corporation live in Glenrothes, and the remainder elsewhere in Fife.
