Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what percentage of average earnings is represented by (a) the single person's tax allowance and (b) the married man's tax allowance at the current time; and how that percentage compares with those for the following years: 1960, 1970, 1975, 1979, 1980 and 1983, respectively.
