Mr. Hume

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) if he will make a statement detailing the total period of time for which Thomas Power has been held on remand, the number of court appearances he has made, the various charges he has faced or is facing, the charges he faced which have been dismissed, the dates on which these various charges were made or dismissed and the various dates on which Mr. Power was arrested;

(2) if he will make a statement outlining why Thomas Power has been held on remand over such a long period of time.

[pursuant to his reply, 20 February 1985, c. 503–504]:The trial of Thomas Power for murder and other serious offences is presently proceeding at Belfast Crown court, and it would not be proper for Ministers to make any statement relating to the circumstances of this case or to any previous charges or court proceedings involving Mr. Power.
