§ Mr. Ashdownasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if he will set out, for the last year for which figures are available (a) the total sum collected in England and Wales from the 5p concessionary television licence and (b) the estimated cost of this collection in salaries, overheads, postage and so on to his Department;
(2) if he will give the total number of man-days expended in his Department on the collection and handling of the 5p concessionary television licence, in the latest year for which figures are available.
§ Mr. Giles ShawWe estimate that the total cost of administering the concessionary licence scheme in 1984 was about £155,000 and the revenue from fees was some £29,000. About 3,300 man-days were spent on this work at the national TV licence records office and in the Department.
