§ Mr. William Rossasked the Prime Minister if she will publish in the Official Report a list of those items for which single payments are made and the sum allowed for each item in Northern Ireland and indicate where these items and sums differ from those in Great Britain made by the Department of Health and Social Security.
§ The Prime MinisterThe categories of items for which single payments can be made are detailed in part 7 133W of the Northern Ireland S Manual. The only difference from Great Britain is that single payments are not available for costs incurred in travelling to visit relatives in hospital, (there is a separate scheme covering such expenses).
The amounts generally payable for bedclothes, clothing and footwear are set out in appendix 7 to the Northern Ireland S Manual; these are the same as in Great Britain. Fixed amounts are not prescribed for other items but the independent adjudication authorities are required to award sufficient to purchase goods of reasonable quality; records are not held centrally of such awards in Northern Ireland or in Great Britain.
