HC Deb 26 February 1985 vol 74 c103W
Mr. Deakins

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what international negotiations on conventional arms transfers have taken place in the past decade; and with what results.

Mr. Luce

In 1977 and 1978 conventional arms transfer talks were held between the United States and the Soviet Union, without a successful outcome. In 1981 the United Nations General Assembly mandated a group of experts to study, on behalf of the United Nations Secretary-General,All aspects of the Conventional Arms Race and Conventional Disarmament.

A United Kingdom expert participated in this study.
