Sir John Farr

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish in the Official Report details of the performance of each area health authority in England and Wales in putting ancillary services out to competitive tendering, to the latest available date.

[pursuant to his reply, 24 January 1985, c. 525]: The great majority of health authorities have now produced satisfactory competitive tendering programmes, and regions are taking steps to obtain satisfactory programmes for the remainder. We have received reports from health authorities showing the progress they had made by 31 December 1984 in the implementation of their programmes. The details shown in the tables give the percentage of the services put out to tender by then and the estimated annual savings on work costing over £100,000 a year awarded either to private contractors or the in-house organisation.
