§ Mr. Wheelerasked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he has reached a decision on the future of the experimental use of wheel clamps in central London; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. RidleyFollowing my consultation with those concerned last year, I received many useful comments on the wheel clamp scheme. There was general support for continuing the scheme in central London for at least a further period in order to establish how longlasting the effects will be. I have therefore today laid before the House an order continuing the use of wheel clamps in central London for a further two years. This will enable the effects of the system to be further assessed. It will continue to be the practice to tow away vehicles dangerously or obstructively parked rather than to clamp them.
