HC Deb 25 February 1985 vol 74 c52W
Mr. Thurnham

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what are the current estimated savings by his Department for 1984–85 as a result of privatisation schemes.

Mr. Ridley

There have been no privatisation schemes (other than in relation to nationalised industries) as such in my Department in 1984–85. However, contracting out of some functions—notably vehicle relicensing work to the Post Office — will save my Department approximately £10.5 million in 1984–85. We are pursuing other opportunities for contracting out.
