asked the Secretary of State for Transport what steps were taken to inform those affected in the Epping Forest district of Essex of their right to claim compensation on account of the M25 and the procedure for so doing.

Public notices, display advertisements and information from the Department's press releases appeared in local newspapers in March 1984 and again on 7 and 8 February 1985 advising those affected about their rights to claim compensation and the procedure for doing so. Explanatory booklets have been sent to all those residents who have written to my Department.

My hon. Friend will be interested to know that we have already received more than 200 claims for this section of motorway.
