Mr. John MacKay

The cost to the Forestry Commission was approximately £2,500.

Mr. Ron Davies

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list those species of woodland birds known to be involved in the control experiment directed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in 1984 in which 142 hectares of Forestry Commission land in Speymouth were aerially sprayed with Fenitrothion.

Mr. John MacKay

The purpose of the experiment was to test the effect of the treatment on a range of species selected as being representative of the population of resident breeding birds. These were: robin, chaffinch, willow warbler, goldcrest and coal tit.
