§ Mr. Freemanasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what proportion of Her Majesty's Government's aid to Ethiopia in the last 12 months was redirected from other programmes.
§ Mr. RentonNone. Our aid to Ethiopia of around £29 million during the last 12 months has come from604W allocations already agreed for food aid, disaster relief of other specific purposes, from a reserve set aside for contingencies and from unavoidable slippage elsewhere in the aid programme. The Ministry of Defence has provided a substantial contribution by sending a Hercules detachment to assist in the distribution of relief supplies and this has naturally had some effect on its other flying activities.
