HC Deb 22 February 1985 vol 73 c618W
Mr. Leigh

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will give the latest figures for (a) the total number of people arrested on miners' pickets lines over the past 11 months and (b) the total number of policemen injured while on picket duty.

Mr. Giles Shaw

Up to 18 February the figures were as follows:

  1. (a) 9,555 persons arrested in connection with the mining dispute.
  2. (b) 1,389 police officers injured while carrying out duties connected with the dispute.

Notes:

  1. (1) The figures do not distinguish arrests and injuries on the picket lines from those which occurred elsewhere in connection with the dispute.
  2. (2) Where the same person has been arrested (or injured) on different occasions, more than one entry will have been made in the figures given.
