HC Deb 22 February 1985 vol 73 c627W
Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether officers of the Clean Industrial Company have signed the Official Secrets Act.

Mr. Lee

I shall answer shortly.

Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what powers he has vested in Clean Industrial to monitor security and vet employees working in his Department's buildings.

Mr. Lee

I shall answer shortly.

Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the cost of the cleaning contract his Department has with Clean Industrial for his Department's buildings; and on what basis he calculates savings accruing from privatisation of the cleaning services in these buildings.

Mr. Lee

Clean Industrial Services Ltd. has a number of contracts with the Department including two for cleaning headquarters buildings, but the price is commercially confidential between the Department and the contractor concerned. Calculation of savings is on the basis of a comparison of the cost of the service performed by a contractor with the cost of the work by direct labour.
