§ Mr. Giles ShawThe conditions for the detention of people in police cutody are at present governed by the judges' rules and administrative directions, which provide that reasonable arrangements should be made for the comfort of those in custody. The code of practice on the detention, treatment and questioning of suspects to be made under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 will provide that access to toilet and washing facilities must be provided. These provisions apply to all persons detained in police custody for whatever offence.
