HC Deb 20 February 1985 vol 73 c489W
Mr. Lawler

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will estimate the cost of extending youth training schemes for two years to all 16 and 17-year-old school leavers who are not already committed to further education courses.

Mr. Peter Morrison

Estimates of the cost of providing additional training opportunities for young people involve making a number of assumptions, principally on the size of the client group, the likely length of stay on the scheme, the rules for funding the scheme and the proportions of time young people spend in training and on work experience. Consideration of the range of basic assumptions yields a number of options for the extent and cost of future youth training provision and it is therefore not possible to provide a single estimate of the cost of extending the youth training scheme.
