§ Mr. Simon Hughesasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the total sum allocated for holiday projects under the urban programme in 1984–85; and if he will make it his policy to maintain this allocation in 1985–86.
§ Sir George YoungUrban programme support for holiday projects in 1984–85 amounted to approximately £2.5 million. In 1985–86 urban programme resources will be concentrated in the most deprived urban areas, with partnership and programme authorities receiving the same initial allocations in cash terms as for the present year. Programmes for these areas are drawn up in accordance with local needs and ministerial priorities, and no national total is set for particular classes of project. Total resources allocated to the traditional urban programme will fall by about 10 per cent. and there is a high level of ongoing commitments, but resources for new projects, including holiday projects, will be concentrated on the most needy areas.
§ Mr. Simon Hughesasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has received recently regarding the level of funding for holiday projects under the urban programme.
§ Sir George YoungLetters have been received from two voluntary organisations about the level of support under the traditional urban programme for holiday projects in 1985–86.
