§ Mr. BrookeIn 1983, the latest date for which information is available, there were 558,000 full-time and part-time students at universities in Great Britain and polytechnics in England compared with 522,000 in 1979. These figures exclude the Open University and the university of Buckingham which do not come under the University Grants Committee.
