§ Sir John Biggs-Davisonasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether Her Majesty's Government will make it their policy to seek the saving of expenditure by the United Nations by opposing any project which is, in the opinion of Her Majesty's Government, unnecessary or frivolous.
§ Mr. RentonIt is our consistent policy to press for improved efficiency of United Nations operations through the curtailment of unnecessary, frivolous or otherwise ineffective programmes. Further, United Kingdom representatives recently emphasised that programmes of proven value should be financed by savings elsewhere in UN programmes and not by new money.
