HC Deb 14 February 1985 vol 73 c221W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on the level of funding of the Medical Research Council.

Mr. Brooke

My right hon. Friend is advised on the level of funding for the research councils by the Advisory Board for Research Councils. Following their advice, the allocations to the Medical Research Council in recent years have broadly maintained the council's share of the science budget at a constant proportion.

The hon. Member will be aware that for 1985–86 there will be an injection of new money of £11 million into the science budget; the Medical Research Council's share will be £2.1 million.
