§ Mr. Steenasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if, in view of the evidence of damage to marine life and shellfish culture, he intends to ban the use of tributyl tin anti-fouling paints.
§ Mr. WaldegraveMy right hon. Friend has today published a consultation paper covering draft regulations under section 100 of the Control of Pollution Act 1974 which would impose controls on the supply and use of such paints. Their general effect would be to prohibit the supply of such paints to private boatowners, and their use by boatbuilders and repairers on boats less than 12 m long. copies of the consultation paper and of the draft regulations have been placed in the Library of the House.
