HC Deb 11 February 1985 vol 73 c41W
Mr. Hardy

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what action he is taking to safeguard public health following the deposition of asbestos in parts of South Yorkshire; and if he will make a statement.

Sir George Young

My hon. Friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Health and Social Security said in his answer to the hon. Member on 20 December 1984, at column305 that the health risk in this case was negligible. The primary responsibility for protecting public health in these circumstances rests with the local authority, and I am informed that adequate measures were taken by the authorities concerned.
