§ Mr. Parkasked the Attorney-General if he issues guidelines to the Director of Public Prosecutions as to the criteria to be used in deciding whether to prosecute in fraud cases; and if he will make a statement.
§ The Attorney-GeneralNo. I meet the Director of Public Prosecutions regularly to discuss the work of his Department. The scope of those discussions includes the handling of fraud cases generally as well as the operation of the newly established fraud investigation groups and individual cases of particular difficulty or importance. The guidelines as to the criteria for prosecution which I published in March 1983 are of general application and no advantage would be gained by the issue of formal guidelines relating to specific categories of criminal offences.
