§ Mr. Nicholas Wintertonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will include in his current review of the need to disclose to employers of people seeking work with children any relevant details of criminal convictions, those seeking to work in the field of residential care for the elderly and the physically and mentally handicapped.
§ Mr. Giles Shaw:This review is primarily directed to the need to protect children from those who by reason of their criminal past are unfit to work with children. But we recognise that there are other areas of employment, such as those referred to by my hon. Friend, where a case can be made for disclosure, and we are prepared to consider any evidence of the need in such areas.
