Mr. Wallace

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many representations he has received on the report of the committee of inquiry into the functions and powers of the islands councils of Scotland; and if he will make a statement.

My right hon. Friend has received representations from a total of 43 organisations and individuals in response to his invitation to submit views on the report of the Committee of Inquiry. The committee's recommendations have also generated other correspondence since its publication.

The recommendations, and the views received on them, are being considered, and we shall announce our conclusions as soon as possible.
