§ Mr. Nicholas EdwardsIt is estimated that the departmental running costs (including notional pensions liability) of the Welsh Office in real terms for the last five years have been as follows:
£ million 1979–80 34.0 1980–81 34.0 1981–82 33.4 1982–83 32.5 1983–84 34.8 The real terms figures are those for cash outturn adjusted to 1983–84 price levels by excluding the effect of general inflation as measured by the GDP deflator.
The increase shown for 1983–84 is largely accounted for by a change in the method of assessing accommodation expenditure from 1 April 1983.
