HC Deb 04 February 1985 vol 72 c373W
Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the average period between remand and trial for prisoners refused bail and charged with offences related to terrorism in Great Britain in 1984; and how many prisoners were held in this manner.

Mr. Mellor

The only information which is readily available concerning prisoners charged with terrorist-type offences relates to prisoners who are currently in prison custody in England and Wales and in category A. It does not cover prisoners who have been released or downgraded.

In 1984, 14 prisoners were first received in custody charged with terrorist-type offences and placed in category A. As at 25 January 1985 none of the trials of these men had been completed.
