HC Deb 04 February 1985 vol 72 cc419-20W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is his estimate of Wales' contribution to the estimated £100 million savings resulting from Her Majesty's Government's proposed limited list of prescribable drugs.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

No firm estimate is possible until our deliberations on the results of the consultation exercise are concluded. On the basis of the provisional list issued for consultation the saving in Wales is estimated to be about £5 million per annum.

Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what consultations he has engaged in with general practitioners in Wales concerning Her Majesty's Government's plans for a limited list of prescribable drugs.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Our chief medical officer issued a consultation letter to all general medical practitioners in Wales in December 1984 requesting comments on the Government's proposals by 31 January 1985. Senior Welsh Office officials subsequently met representatives of the Welsh Council of the Royal College of General Practitioners to receive representations.

Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what representations he has received from consultants in Wales concerning Her Majesty's Government's proposed limited list of prescribable drugs.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Four hospital consultants have written offering constructive suggestions regarding the content of the proposed limited list.
