asked the Secretary of State for Energy if there have been any discussions between his Department and the National Coal Board regarding proposals to sell any of the principal assets of the coal industry; and if he will make a statement.

The Government have no plans to privatise coal mines, and no discussions of any such proposals have taken place between my Department and the NCB.
