asked the Secretary of State for Transport when he next expects to meet the chairman of British Rail to discuss the prospects for improved productivity in the railway industry.

Mr. Ridley

I meet the chairman of British Rail regularly to discuss matters of mutual interest, including the scope for improved productivity. I last met the chairman on 21 January and plan to see him again towards the middle of this month.
