§ 57. Mr. Deakinsasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what proportion of the Overseas Development Administration funds is spent on raising agricultural production in developing countries.
§ Mr. RaisonIn 1983, the latest year for which the relevant figures are available, total aid programme expenditure was £1,170 million, of which £1,034 million can be allocated by sector. Of this latter figure, an estimated 26 per cent. (or about £267 million) was spent on bilateral or multilateral aid activities aimed at raising agricultural production. Aid to other sectors, for example, roads, may well also help increase agricultural production.
