§ Mr. Chris PattenThere are two private hospitals in Northern Ireland providing acute surgical care, the Ulster independent clinic in the Eastern Health and Social Services Board area and the St. John of God hospital in the Southern Health and Social Services Board area. The number of beds in each is 50 and 36, respectively, although these are not used exclusively for acute care. Information on bed occupancy rate is not held centrally.
