§ Mr. Giles ShawThe previous edition of "The Sentence of the Court" was published in 1978. The new edition will reflect the many changes in courts' statutory powers since then, including the revised custodial sentences for young offenders introduced by the Criminal Justice Act 1982 and the criteria, set out in the Act, for imposing them. It will also refer to sentencing guidance342W given by the Court of Appeal during the same period, including that concerning the need for substantial prison terms for serious violence.
