HC Deb 20 December 1985 vol 89 c420W
Mr. Weetch

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) whether local dental committees are intended to be representative of general dental practitioners as a whole; and if he will make a statement;

(2) what information he has as to how many dentists serve on local dental committees; what proportion of these are general dental practitioners on the dental list of family practitioner committees; how many are elected and how many co-opted; and how many contested elections took place in the most recent year for which figures are available.

Mr. Hayhoe

It is a requirement that a local dental committee for a family practitioner committee area can only be officially recognised if it is representative of practitioners providing general dental services in that area.

My Department holds copies of the constitutions of local dental committees. No detailed information is available, however, on individual members of committees or the number of contested elections.
