§ Mr. Kilroy-Silkasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will order an investigation into the reasons why there are 30 per cent. more deaths than the national average from heart disease in the St. Helens and Knowsley area.
§ Mr. HayhoeBoth the Mersey region and St. Helens and Knowsley health authority are aware of the incidence of deaths from heart disease in the district, caused mainly by cigarette smoking and unhealthy diet. The district's health education unit is actively promoting campaigns in schools and places of employment, as well as through health visitors, midwives and community staff, alerting the public to the harmful effects of smoking on health as well as promoting healthy eating and the benefits of exercise.
