Between June 1983 and June 1985 (the latest date for which figures are availabale) the civilian employed labour force in the south-east region grew by 332,000; equal to 51 per cent. of the net increase in the civilian employed labour force in Great Britain.
Comparable figures are not available for Greater London, but over the same period the number of employees in employment in the area rose by 6,000; equal to 2.5 per cent. of the net increase in the number of employees in employment in Great Britain.
