asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he has any plans to amend the regulations governing the use of additives in food; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Fenner

There are no immediate plans to do so. Food additive regulations are amended when necessary following the advice of the Food Advisory Committee and after consultation with all interests.

30. Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he has any plans to discuss food additives with United Kingdom food manufacturers; and if he will make a statement.

The Ministry is in regular contact with food manufacturers and with many other interests concerned with food additives.

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what recent representations he has received about the effects of additives in food for human consumption.

My Ministry regularly receives a great variety of correspondence on all matters concerning food, including the use of additives.

42. Mr. Ashley

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many of the additives currently added to British food are not approved by the European Economic Community.

Mrs. Fenner

Community directives[...] have been developed for only a limited number of food additives. United Kingdom legislation applies those directives and additionally controls many more food additives.
