HC Deb 19 December 1985 vol 89 cc292-3W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what grants were made under the Civil Defence (Grant) Regulations in each of the years 1978–79 to 1984–85 inclusive to (a) police authorities, (b) fire authorities, (c) regional councils, other than in their role as fire or police authorities and (d) district councils.

Mr. John MacKay

The following table shows the grants made to local authorities in Scotland under the Civil Defence (Grant) (Scotland) Regulations 1953 in respect of the years in question. Normally grants are made to regional councils without distinguishing between their police, fire and other functions; but payments are made direct to joint boards/committees as shown.

Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) what grants were made for civil defence purposes other than under the Civil Defence (Grant) Regulations to any body or organisation other than a local or police authority in each of the years 1979–80 to 1984–85, inclusive;

(2) what grants were made under the Civil Defence (Grant) Regulations to any body or organisation other than a local police authority in each of the years 1979–80 to 1984–85, inclusive.

None.

Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what civil defence grant allocations were made to regional councils for 1982-83, 1983–84, 1984–85 and 1985–86.

Mr. John MacKay

The Scottish Home and Health Department has not been in the practice of making allocations of civil defence grant to regional councils.

Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) what grants have been made to regional councils for the purpose of enabling persons to undertake to serve as civil defence volunteers pursuant to the Civil Defence (General Local Authority Functions) (Scotland) Regulations 1983 since 1 December 1983; and in what year;

(2) what grants have been made to regional councils for the attendance on any civil defence training course of members of their staff pursuant to the Civil Defence (General Local Authority Functions) (Scotland) Regulations 1983 since 1 December 1983; and in what year;

(3) what grants have been made to regional councils for the training of their own staff and the staff of district councils in their area pursuant to the Civil Defence (General Local Authority Functions) (Scotland) Regulations 1983 since 1 December 1983; and in what year.

Mr. John MacKay

As the grant applications from regional councils do not distinguish these activities in detail, the information requested is not centrally available.
