HC Deb 19 December 1985 vol 89 cc295-6W
Sir Bernard Braine

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how many car accidents involving death or serious injury occurred on the A127 in 1984 and in 1985 to date; in how many cases these were cross-over accidents; and what action he is taking to ensure that crash barriers are installed without further delay in the most vulnerable areas.

Mr. Ridley

The number of car accidents involving death or serious injury on the Al27 and the number of these which were cross-over accidents, is as follows:

1984 *1985
Car accidents of which 52 18
Cross-over accidents 5 0

*First six months.

It is my intention to install safety barriers along all of the A127 in the eastern region. Some work has already been completed. A contract for the installation of remaining sections will be let in the next financial year. My engineers are assessing the provision of safety barriers along sections of the A127 in London.
